We all know that the economy is tough, what we may not know is what to cut from our budget when it’s all we can do to remain in the black. How can we make the cuts necessary without hurting our image or losing our customers?

These ideas should help:

If you feel the need to cut advertising, make a change by sending your work out freelance. When most companies let their advertising go completely, keep your advertising up and running. Let customers know that they are the most important part of your business. Much of your advertising can be done for free anyway.

Do you need an office, or will an office in your home suffice? Not having to pay rent space will be a huge load off your back if you can do without it.

Hire out your payroll or do it yourself through your favorite software program.

Cut back on office supplies and only buy what you absolutely need. Watch for employees taking supplies home. You may want to consider locking the supply cabinet or closely monitoring the use of supplies. Also consider services like Metrofax Faxing to cut back on paper and important time.

Can you reduce phone lines, equipment leases, reuse paper for scratch, do some bargain shopping, or have a brain storming session with your employees? Many of your best ideas in cutting business costs will come from employees who want to keep their jobs and blogs devoted to the subject.

Be creative when it comes to cutting your business expenses, rather than cutting what comes to your mind first. Have a plan, get others in your company involved, and follow through with your plan to success.
