Here’s the first lesson a business student learns: Businesses are in the business to make money. This is followed up by the adage to make money you have to spend money. Often it comes down to a matter of business spending strategy that will determine the level of success for any company. Is there a clear spending policy in place? Who makes the final decisions on spending? What are the projected goals off the company? All of these factors come into play when discussing business spending.
The sure way to get our economy back on track is with business spending. These could be investments in new equipment and materials or expansion of the work force. Either way, that infusion of cash into the economy is the best stimulus there is. As a business considers expansion, they’ll be looking towards their bottom line. An obvious area to examine is internet and phone usage. You might be loyal to a particular carrier because they are the ones you began your business with. However, if you were to shop around you might be surprised to find amazing savings through other internet and phone plans.
Energy costs are another big budget item for many companies. What is your business energy policy? Even taking simple steps like shutting down computers at night when no one is working can go a long way towards reducing your energy costs. The same can be said for your paper usage. Are printing up all those reports necessary especially when that information is readily available on the company’s database? Put the money you save to better use: growing your business.
